We will celebrate 30 years of advancing photonic materials and spectroscopy to honour Prof. Amitava Patra’s 60th birthday. We invite articles on all aspects of spectroscopy; in particular, those that touch closely on Prof. Amitava Patra’s scientific interests in ultrafast excited state dynamics, energy transfer, and electron transfer in light-harvesting nanomaterials. This special collection aims to highlight cutting-edge research in multidimensional quantum dots, metal nanoclusters, perovskites, 2D nanoplatelets, carbon dots, semiconducting polymer, graphene and porphyrin based luminescent nanoparticles, and up- and down- converted luminescent materials for advancements in photonic materials and spectroscopy.

Topics that may be covered in the collection may include spectroscopy of nanomaterials, which among others include:

  • Noble metal clusters
  • Semi-conductor magic-size clusters
  • Polyoxometalate clusters
  • Carbon-based nanomaterials
  • Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)
  • Plasmonic nanostructures
  • DNA based self-assembled structures

We welcome both experimental and theoretical studies on, with topics of interest including but not limited to:

  • characterization of structures and physicochemical properties
  • applications (such as in catalysis, sensing, and bioimaging)
  • self-assembly
  • Low-Dimensional Materials

If you would like to contribute to this themed collection, you can submit your article directly through the or online submission system. We encourage authors to select the journal which best suits the focus and audience of their research. Upon submission, please mention that this submission is an open call contribution to the themed collection in honour of Prof. Amitava Patra’s 60th birthday in the ‘Themed issues’ section of the submission form and add a ‘Note to the Editor’ that this is from the Open Call. The Editorial Office reserves the right to check suitability of submissions in relation to the scope of both the journal and the collection, and inclusion of accepted articles in the final themed collection is not guaranteed.

This open call is only open to primary research submissions in the form of full papers or Communications.
