Caroline Dessent

Biography
Caroline Dessent studied Chemistry at Jesus College, Oxford and completed her PhD with Mark Johnson at Yale University in the USA. She subsequently held a UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ University Research Fellowship and an ERC Starting Independent Research Fellowship. She is now a Professor of Physical and Analytical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at York. Caroline’s research group engages in experimental and theoretical research, and have a wide range of areas of study including photochemistry, spectroscopy, analytical chemistry, on-line reaction monitoring and environmental chemistry, all using laser-interfaced mass spectrometry methods.
She has been an elected member of the Faraday Community Council, as well as the Chair of the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Spectroscopy and Dynamics special interest group. Caroline is a passionate advocate of Diversity and Inclusion in science, and works on projects to improve the career progression of individuals who are currently underrepresented in the chemistry community.
