Decarbonizing the chemical industry requires significant advancements across multiple energy vectors, with hydrogen playing a crucial role. As a key reagent in fuel upgrading and the production of ammonia and methanol, hydrogen is indispensable. However, its conventional production via methane steam reforming remains one of the most carbon-intensive chemical processes. This special issue focuses on cleaner hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. It will emphasise novel materials, methods, and processes that advance sustainable hydrogen technologies, contributing to a low-carbon future.
We invite contributions on a range of topics, including but not limited to:
• Hydrogen production from water via electrolysis
• Alternative low-carbon feedstocks, such as biomass, plastic waste, or natural gas as hydrogen production feedstock
• Electrified hydrogen production methods, including plasmas, microwaves, induction heating, and resistive heating
• Process intensification that integrate reaction, separation, and purification to enhance production rates and/or reducing energy consumption and costs
• Hydrogen production integrated with carbon capture and utilization
