2025 International Symposium on Liquid Salts Chemistry and Materials Technology

18 - 21 December 2025, Shanghai, China

Introduction
Against the backdrop of a global energy transition, ionic liquids and molten salts (collectively, liquid salts) technologies are demonstrating tremendous development potentials. Liquid salts are important for thermal, thermochemical and solar energy storage, as coolants / solvents in nuclear reactors, as electrolytes in batteries and for industrial electrochemical reactions, and as media for fuel cells and CO2 capture. In particular, thorium-based molten salt reactors (TMSR), with their revolutionary safety designs and sustainable features, have emerged as the representative of the fourth-generation nuclear energy technologies. Critical breakthroughs in sustainable clean energy are emerging based on liquid salts. In recent years, significant progresses have been made in areas including; molten salt preparation, electrochemical separation, ionic liquids as engineering materials and in systems engineering, creating innovative opportunities in emerging fields withinrenewable energy storage.

To promote the innovative application of liquid salts technologies in clean energy and enhance international academic exchange and collaboration, the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Molten Salt and Ionic Liquid Discussion Group (MSILDG) of the UUֱ of Chemistry (UUֱ) are jointly organizing the "2025 International Symposium on Liquid Salts Chemistry and Materials Technology” which will includethe“2025 MSILDG Christmas Meeting".
